Tips to draft an introduction request

Introduce yourself in a few words, explain the reasons for your request and why this may be interest of the recipient.

Please be specific and consider the recipient's reaction.

Status of your requests

Click Introductions to find out the status and history of your introduction requests.

"Pending" status indicates that one of the members in the path or the recipient has not yet processed the request. To see the status of a request, click on its title.

What is an introduction?

Viadeo works in the same way as networking offline: you get introduced to new friends by a mutual friend. New contacts are more likely to accept your connection request if you have friends in common or other references.

How can I add someone I know to my network?

If you know a Viadeo member and would like to add them to your network, use the 'I know xxx' feature (Click on the member's profile and then 'I know'.

This feature allows you to send the person a short memo. They can then decide to accept or refuse your request to connect.

This function is limited to 25 requests in order to reduce the possibility of spamming. After using this function 25 times, the link 'I know XXX' will be redirected to the normal invitation procedure.

How can I contact a person I do not yet know?

If you would like to contact a Viadeo member you do not know, simply click on their profile, then on 'Connect' or 'add to my contact' on the top right corner.

You can see the paths you can use to contact a member. You need to ask the members in the path to pass your connection request to the member you would like to connect.

Click 'Send a message' to send a message to members in your network, including your contacts and their contacts. Go to 'My Preferences' if you only want to receive message from your contacts.

The unlimited Connection Requests is only available for Premium Members.

You can contact a member by a Connection Request or via your network Introduction Request.

How does an Introduction Request works?

Example:

You John Smith  Thomas Hall  Recipient

You probably have a few paths available to connect to a member. Select a path with members who are more likely to forward your request.

Then 'write my request' to introduce yourself and explain your request.

Add a message to ask your mutual contacts to forward your request. Then click 'send'.

What happens next?

Your request is sent to the mutual contacts by email. They can forward your request to the next member in the path.

Please note that your messages are visible to the members on the path.

When a member agrees to forward the request, they continue as you did: write a message for the next member in the path and ask them to forward your request.

Please note that messages between members are confidential and cannot be read by third parties. Thus, the initial message you sent your contact can only be read by them.

What happens when my request reaches its recipient?

If all the members on the path forwarded your request, the recipient can still decide to accept your request or not.

If your request is accepted, you will receive an email including their response and contact details. All you need to do next is to connect to initiate, we hope, a fruitful cooperation.

If your request is declined, you will also receive an email, with possibly an explanation of refusal.

What happens if one of the people in the path refuses to forward my request?

This happens generally because the person knows the contact well and thinks that your request will not be of interest to them. You will receive a message from the person who refused to forward your request, explaining their refusal.

Can I see who is the next person in the path that needs to forward my request?

Click on the link 'Introductions' to see all the introduction requests that you have sent. When you click on an introduction request you can see the progress of your request: i.e. you can see the person who needs to forward your demand and for how long your introduction is pending.

What should I do if I am asked to forward an introduction request.

Please use your own judgement to decide whether or not to forward the request.

Viadeo members are encouraged to establish trusted network. Think for your contacts and help them establish useful connections with other members.

How do I know that if someone wants to connect with me?

You will receive an email and a message on your Dashboard about introduction requests for you. You can then accept or decline the request.

If you accept the request, you can include a message or your contact details with the email to confirm your acceptance.

If you decline the request, you can send an explanation.

What is the 'My Opinion' on the requests that I have accepted?

Rate the usefulness of the connection. The information is only visible to you.
